I joined a gym……for 3 weeks

Well, I was doing really good for three weeks!!!  I went at least three times a week and had lost 7.5 pounds and 8 inches!

Then I twisted my knee.  I was getting on one of the upper body machines and when I turned to sit down my shoe got stuck on the metal bar at the bottom so my knee twisted while my foot stayed still.  I knew instantly I’d torn something but finished my workout and hobbled out.

I came home and told Hubby who said to put ice on it and prop it up.  The next day he sent me to CVS to buy a brace and told me to continue to ice it, take ibuprofen and stay off of it (which in my mind meant sitting in bed all day and limping around when I needed to get up).  I did this for two weeks then went to the doctor….who charged me $99 to tell me the exact same thing Hubby said.  With all of his sports injuries he knew what he was talking about.

Both told me if I wanted any hope of doing my dance recital I needed to stay off of it for at least 2-3 weeks…like off off.  Like on crutches kinda off.  So that’s where I’ve been the last few weeks- hobbling around on crutches.  I’ve heard kids say it would be so cool to use them.

Not.

After the first twenty-four hours I got smart and taped towels to the top.  It took two red chaffing spots on my sides and having to ditch my bra to figure that out.  The only plus side is that I’m going to have some amazing ab muscles and stronger arms when I’m finished- which is ironic since I was working on arm strength when I injured myself.  But until I’m healed I’m dealing with extremely sore palms which are really painful first thing in the morning, sore arms, a sore left leg from all the weight, a sore right knee, driving sucks and my kids can’t seem to keep a clear path from my room to the kitchen so I have to dodge slippery papers, clothes and stuffed animals.

But, I’m not giving up.  I will be back in the gym soon!!  Of course, if I do my dance recital and screw up my knee even more I’ll be on crutches the rest of the summer.  But we’ll deal with that when the time comes.

In the mean time I’m trying to do strength training with my upper body and watching what I eat- kinda.

I should probably do my measurements soon because I feel a little thinner tromping around on the metal sticks.  We’ll see!!
